The Fun Theory Part 19: Harpies of the New & Old

It's time for another deck segment! After The Fun Theory Part 9: Incarnate Harpies in 2013, I finally decided to do up another Fun Theory post about Harpies! Since that last post, the Harpie playing style has not changed significantly, but 2015 does bring new promises to Harpies' contention for a spot in the top meta with the release of a brand new Harpie monster. We'll get to that in a short while after the brief introduction that will follow below.

Just like The Fun Theory Part 18: Everyday Christmas! I will be doing yet another decklist that caters to the TCG readers out there. I do have a version of this decklist that follows the OCG banlist, so if anyone is interested, do let me know below.

This decklist, while following the TCG banlist, utilises the new Harpie card that is yet to be released into the TCG, so TCG players can experiment with this new card first! Let's get on to the decklist!

Unlike "Incarnate Harpies", "Harpies of the New & Old" does not utilise any Synchro Summoning mechanism due to the lack of tuners in this deck, instead only pure Xyz Summoning is used in this deck. But before we get further with how the deck runs, let's first take a look at the new Harpie card that was mentioned at the start of this post:

Name: Harpie Harpist
WIND/ Winged-Beast/ Effect/ Level 4/ ATK 1700/ DEF 600
Effect: This card's name becomes "Harpie Lady" while it is on the field or in the Graveyard. You can only use each of these effects of "Harpie Harpist" once per turn.
● When this card is Normal Summoned: You can target 1 other Winged Beast-Type monster you control and 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; return them to the hand.
● During the End Phase, if this card is in the Graveyard because it was sent there this turn: You can add 1 Level 4 Winged Beast-Type monster with 1500 or less ATK from your Deck to your hand.

So this new Harpie card, which is set to be released on the 22nd of January 2015 (oh wait, it's today!), will definitely be a great addition to the Harpie team!

Let's first take a look at the first effect. In a pure Harpie deck, the first effect would not be as commonly used as the second effect, but it still provides a fast way to get rid of stronger monsters on your opponent's side of the field by acting as a "Compulsory Evacuation Device" at the cost of returning one other Winged-Beast type monster from your side of the field, which is not a very heavy cost to pay!

So in this aspect, "Harpie Harpist" actually acts as a tool to clear the path for a fast counterattack. You can combine the use of the first effect of "Harpie Harpist" with cards such as "Hysteric Party" to special summon as many Harpie monsters as possible from your Graveyard, then Normal Summon "Harpie Harpist" to clear one monster.

This effect would become more useful in a Mist Valley deck by working side by side with "Harpie Dancer", but we won't be touching on that since the deck in the limelight today is not Mist Valley deck.

The second effect of "Harpie Harpist" is the one I like the most. If you look at the effect carefully, you would realise that it does not specify where "Harpie Harpist" has to be sent from, so no matter how you get it to the Graveyard, its effect will still trigger in the End Phase! Below are the methods that can pull off "Harpie Harpist's" second effect:

1) Harpie Harpist being destroyed by battle or by card effect
2) Harpie Harpist being tributed by cards such as Icarus Attack or Swallow's Nest
3) Harpie Harpist being discarded as a cost for effects of cards such as Harpie Channeler or Hysteric Party
4) Harpie Harpist being detached as a Xyz material
5) Harpie Harpist being sent from the deck to the Graveyard via card effects such as Lavalval Chain

and the list goes on.....

but what is interesting here is not how you can get "Harpie Harpist" to the Graveyard, but rather what its effect can bring. By searching for a Winged-Beast type monster with 1500 attack and below, you can have fast access to cards such as "Harpie Channeler" to kickstart you deck's Harpie combo (after all, Harpie decks still revolves around Harpie Channeler, which is an undeniable truth), or you can look for "Barrier Statue of the Stormwinds" to lock down your opponent's special summoning tactics, and this can be especially useful against decks such as Junk Doppel, giving them no way to get past the strong Statue instantly.

Another interesting card in this deck is "Swallow's Nest" which can help you to instantly special summon cards such as "Harpie Channeler", "Barrier Statue of the Stormwinds", or any Harpie monsters that you can special summon to use the effect of "Harpie's Hunting Ground" to get rid of one spell/trap that your opponent controls (or even your own Hysteric Sign!).

In situations where you can launch a series of direct attacks on your opponent, you can use "Swallow's Nest" to get an additional attack after all your monsters have already attacked, helping you to get a possible OTK.

One of the weaknesses of "Harpie Channeler" is that once you get blocked by cards such as "Effect Veiler", "Fiendish Chain", or "Breakthrough Skill", your combo stops. However, with "Swallow's Nest", if your "Harpie Channeler" is hit by such cards, simply use "Swallow's Nest" to tribute "Harpie Channeler" so that its effect can resolve successfully!

My Little Hong Kong Trip

Hi everyone! I'm back with a blog post after a long time. Studies and exams are to be blamed, and after yet another hectic semester, I decided to take a short break in Hong Kong! So while I was in Hong Kong, I decided to dedicate an entire day to Yu-Gi-Oh!

My main objective was the look for the Traditional Chinese (TC) booster packs that are only available in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and my trip did pay off in the end!

While I am unable to speak Cantonese (which is the main medium of communication in Hong Kong), I was able to speak Chinese (well, they are still Chinese after all) and English (which some of them are able to understand), which in a way, was able to help me to communicate with the shop owners and the players there.

My first stop was Smiling Plaza, which has a huge array of card shops. The nearest train station to Smiling Plaza is 長沙灣 (Cheung Sha Wan Station) on the Tsuen Wan Line (colour coded red). Below are a couple of pictures that I took:



1st shop:  東京駅 (Tokyo Station)

This was the first shop that I saw when I made my way up to the second floor (NOTE: in Hong Kong, the first floor is called the ground floor, while the second floor is called the first floor, and so on and so forth, thus, explaining why the unit number starts with "1")

This shop was pretty nice, with the shop owner bring rather friendly, but due to my lack of communication abilities in Cantonese, it was rather difficult to converse with him.



2nd shop: 怪獸 (Monster)

This was the second shop that I saw, which was ran by a middle-aged couple if I recall correctly. As the lady was able to speak Chinese, it was relatively alright for me to communicate with her. I did not manage to find anything that I need though, mainly due to their small selection of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards.


3rd shop: ???

I conveniently left out the name of the shop in the picture, thus, I was unable to recall the name of the shop, and thus, I could not remember how the shop and shop owner was like lol.


4th shop: 118

I don't think there was a shop name printed anywhere on this shop, but I could recall my experience with the shop owner. He is an extremely helpful shop owner with a large collection of cards, so as long as you are looking for OCG cards, this shop should pretty much have what you are looking for. Highly recommended.


5th shop: ???

I don't think there's a shop name for this shop as well, but this was my favourite shop of all. The shop is ran by Billy and Fai. Billy is extremely proficient in the English language and I could communicate very well with him. Billy is apparently a very famous player in Australia, topping regionals and Oceanics regularly while he was there. Fai does not lose out as well, he is about the best and most famous player in Hong Kong. The playmats, shirts, and sleeves that you see on the right side of the picture is from his multiple appearances for Hong Kong.


6th shop: K2

This was the only shop that I manage to find the Traditional Chinese (TC) booster packs, thus, my trip was not in vain as I managed to pick up many Chinese cards from this shop. The shop owner is proficient in the Chinese language, and his accent strongly suggest that he is not a native from Hong Kong, but nonetheless, I was able to communicate with him well in Chinese.


7th shop: MARS

This was the 7th shop that I came by, and it has a huge selection of different card games in the shop. It also has three shops clustered together. The first picture is the shop's main shop where booster packs and singles can be bought. The second picture is the shop's playing area where tables and chairs are set up. However, there is a fee imposed for players to use this area. The third picture is closed the entire day with its glass panels covered up with posters, so I could not see what is inside, but I suspect this is the warehouse shop for MARS.


8th shop: 土星廊 (Saturn Gallery)

This shop only has a small selection of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards but they do have a lot of anime-related products, so if you are interested in anime products, this may be one of the shops for you.


9th shop: 万事屋 ("Yorozuya" from the anime "Gintama")

This shop does not have much Yu-Gi-Oh! products as well, but just like Saturn Gallery above, they have plenty of anime products as well.


10th shop: 卡の堡 (Kingdom of Cards)

I don't have much memory about this card shop, so I apologise for the lack of information that I can provide for this shop.


11th shop: 180

Once again, this shop doesn't have any names printed on the shop as I recalled. This shop have plenty of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, and it was at this shop that I was finally able to obtain an Ultimate Rare Jinzo that I have been searching for a very long time. The shop owners are rather friendly as well, so I do recommend this shop!


12th shop: 刀劍卡店 (Card Shop of Knives and Swords)

The above English translation of the shop name was the most logical one that I could come up with. Once again, I don't have much memory of this card shop, so it probably doesn't have anything that I was looking for. However, there is no harm in visiting this shop when you come by!


13th shop: 212

I didn't see any names printed on this shop as well, but it's hard to miss as the shop label is wrapped by the box of Legendary Collections 4: Joey's World. This shop opens at very weird intervals, so if you want to visit this shop, do be ready to be disappointed as I did not manage to see this shop open as well.


14th shop: 夢想 (Dreams)

This is about the tidiest card shop that I came across in the entire Smiling Plaza, but unfortunately the prices for their singles were just a little too high for my liking, but otherwise, it still shines in cleanliness and organisation!


15th shop: 魔法少年 (Magical Teens)

This is the only Yu-Gi-Oh! shop on the first floor (or Ground Floor as per Hong Kong Terminology), this was the shop that I especially liked as I was able to obtain an old print Ultra Parallel Jinzo for an extremely good price, so once again, this shop is highly recommended.

A short walk away brought me to Dragon Centre, which is the home of the Konami Centre in Hong Kong. The nearest train station to Dragon Centre is 深水埗 (Sham Shui Po Station) which is just one station away from Cheung Sha Wan Station.


Do take note of their Opening Hours though, they are closed on Monday and Tuesday.

Overall, it was a good trip for me as I managed to pick up many old print Jinzos as well as a couple of Traditional Chinese (TC) booster packs, and do visit these shops when you visit Hong Kong!

The Fun Theory Part 18: Everyday Christmas!

It's the final day of my summer vacation, and tomorrow will be the start of the new semester for me! Well, that means that I would have lesser time for Yu-Gi-Oh!, and blogging especially, so today will be the last post of my summer vacation.

While ending my summer vacation is not something to be happy about, watching my favourite BPL team "Tottenham Hotspur" come off with a 1-0 win over "West Ham United" sure lifted my spirits, so a happy deck for my last summer post of 2014 is in order!

Although my last few Fun Theory Posts have all been OCG catered decklist, I decided to do a TCG deck list this time round for the benefits of my TCG readers. A couple of OCG exclusives have been added to this deck as well so that TCG players can also utilise them once they are released on their side.

Some background information on this deck, I named it "Everyday Christmas!" due to this deck's ability to reap a lot of advantage by creating minuses for your opponent and pluses for yourself. Furthermore, with one of the main card of this deck "Santa Claws", Christmas seems to be an appropriate name to add to the title :)

The strategy of this deck basically revolves tributing your opponent's monsters for "Santa Claws", "Volcanic Queen" and/or "Lava Golem" and special summoning them to their side of the field, then using "Owner's Seal" and/or "Remove Brainwashing" to regain control of those monsters to utilise their effects or just as a beatstick.

For those who are unaware of "Santa Claws", it is an OCG exclusive that was first released as a Jump Fiesta Promo Card.


Name: Santa Claws
LIGHT/ Fiend/ Effect/ Level 6/ ATK1200/ DEF2500
Effect: You can special summon this card (from your hand) to your opponent's side of the field in defense position, by tributing one monster they control. If summoned this way, during the end phase of the turn: you can draw 1 card.

While "Santa Claws" has a low attack, it compensates for it with a high defense point (which you can use it as a wall of defense) and an awesome effect! While it must be first special summoned to your opponent's side of the field, by using "Owner's Seal", "Remove Brainwashing" or "Creature Swap", you can regain control of this card and draw 1 card in the end phase!

Do note that "Remove Brainwashing's" effect is continuous, so if your opponent chains for example, "Forbidden Lance" when you activate "Remove Brainwashing", the monster will only return to your side of the field at the start of the next turn when the effect of "Forbidden Lance" no longer applies, meaning that you would not be able to obtain the draw effect of "Santa Claws".

As in the weakness of every "Remove Brainwashing" deck out there, you are a sitting duck if you have no "Owner's Seal" or "Remove Brainwashing", thus, giving your opponent the opportunity to rush you in an OTK move. Therefore, a strong defense is necessary for this deck. Cards such as "Swift Scarecrow", "Battle Fader" and "Threatening Roar" are in place to ensure that you can buy enough time to pull off your combos while utilising draw cards such as "Upstart Goblin", "Reckless Greed" and "Cardcar D" to get the cards you need off the top of your deck.

The Extra Deck is seldom used as it is not necessary for you to achieve a victory. However, should you run out of "Santa Claws", "Volcanic Queen" or "Lava Golem", one card would prove to be extremely useful, and that would be "Constellar Ptolemy M7". As "Santa Claws" and "Volcanic Queen" are both Level 6, you can Xyz Summon "Constellar Ptolemy M7" using them, then utilised its effect to retrieve the tributer monsters with its effect. Furthermore, you can also add back the card that you detached from "Constellar Ptolemy M7".

For example, if you detach "Santa Claws" with "Constellar Ptolemy M7's" effect, you can add back that "Santa Claws", allowing you to reuse the effect immediately!

[NON-YUGIOH RELATED] Kpop Album Opening

Today's post is going to be a non-yugioh related one. As most people who know me would know, I'm a diehard Kpop fan and I often purchase Kpop albums, so for the benefit of those readers who are also avid Kpop fans, I'm going to post pictures whenever I purchase any new albums!

This might not be exactly the newest album out now, but I only managed to get my hands on it after a long time, so I'll still post it. For any f(x) fans out there, the album I'm posting today is f(x)'s "Red Light"!


So f(x) makes their comeback with a new sexy concept, not exactly my type of f(x), but still they are awesome, so let's not discount them for it :)

Red Light is f(x)'s 3rd studio album and consists of 11 songs, with its title track "Red Light" bearing the same name as the album's title. For those who have yet to watch the "Red Light" MV, I have pasted the video below, so do enjoy it!

Other than the soundtrack CD, the album also comes with a think photo album which reveals the photoshoot of f(x)'s members in their "Red Light" concept attire. It also comes with a poster, a random postcard of one member (i.e. you can get any of the 5 members), and a sticker.


The poster that comes with this album is extremely large (as you can see how it compares in size with the album in the picture above), so it really made the purchase of the album worthwhile. For my postcard, which is random for each album, I got Victoria's postcard!


For the postcard, the front would be a picture of the f(x) member, while the back would include their autograph. While I am happy to get a postcard of Victoria, I would be happy to trade it for a Luna or Sulli postcard if any readers out there who got them are willing to make a swap :)

The Fun Theory Part 17: Shaddoll HEROes

Hi everyone, it's been ages since I last did a proper post, so today I'll bring a fun deck (well sort of fun to me) to you guys! As you can see from the title of this blog post, this is a hybrid deck of Shaddolls and Elemental HEROes. Both are competitive decks at the top levels, especially for the latter since the release of the new HERO's Strike Structure Deck in the OCG, introducing several new Elemental Hero cards, alongside some cool new Mask Change capabilities, boosting the Elemental Hero deck to its highest competitive form.

Just a brief introduction on the coolest new member to the Elemental Hero Family, here's "Elemental HERO Shadow Mist":


Name: Elemental HERO Shadow Mist
DARK/ Warrior/ Level 4/ Effect/ ATK1000/ DEF1500
Effect: If this card is Special Summoned: You can add one "Change" Quick-Play Spell Card from your Deck to your hand. If this card is sent to your Graveyard: You can add one "HERO" monster from your Deck to your hand, except "Elemental HERO Shadow Mist". You can only use one "Elemental HERO Shadow Mist" effect per turn, and only once that turn.

With this newest Elemental HERO, it not only helps Mask Change based deck to quickly access "Mask Change", it also serves as a "Reinforcement of the Army" or "E - Emergency Call" with its second effect. Furthermore, since it is also a DARK type monster, it complements well with the Shaddoll Deck theme, and also with "Mask Change", it gives rise to one of the strongest new Masked HEROes, "Masked HERO Dark Law"!


Name: Masked HERO Dark Law
DARK/ Warrior/ Level 6/ Fusion/ Effect/ ATK2400/ DEF1800
Effect: Must be Special Summoned by "Mask Change", and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. Any card sent to your opponent's Graveyard is banished instead. Once per turn, if your opponent adds a card(s) from their Main Deck to their hand, except during the Draw Phase or Damage Step: You can banish one random card from your opponent's hand.

Dark Law essentially serves as walking "Macro Cosmos" that only applies to your opponent's side of the field, leaving your own side of the field safe from its effect. Furthermore, as if that effect isn't badass enough, its second effect allows you to drop cards from your opponent's hand if they search any cards. That means cards such as "E - Emergency Call", "Reinforcement of the Army", "Traptrix Myrmeleo" and so on and so forth may leave your opponent in a vulnerable state instead, making Dark Law a strong opponent for your opponent!

With all that introduction done, let's now move on the main topic of the day. Introducing Shaddoll HEROes:

At first look, this deck may look weird, and you may be thinking how Shaddolls would interact with Elemental HEROes here. The answer is that these two seperate deck themes do not interact with each other! They essentially work on their own as two seperate engines. However, in times of need, they do provide materials for each other to unleash their combos!

For example: You can use "Shaddoll Fusion" to send one Shaddoll monster and either "Elemental HERO Neos Alius" or "Elemental HERO Heat" to Fusion Summon "El-Shaddoll Nephilim" or "El-Shaddoll Grystal" respectively. The materials that the Elemental HERO deck provides is something that the Shaddoll deck does not have as Shaddolls are all DARK types, and do not have the LIGHT type or FIRE type to fusion summon the above mentioned monsters on their own.

Similarly, Shaddolls also provide materials for the Elemental HERO deck when they are using "Miracle Fusion" to Fusion Summon "Elemental HERO Escuridao". While there is also "Elemental HERO Shadow Mist" that is also a DARK type, you may want to keep it there for other purposes, and that allows the Shaddoll Deck to fill in the role.

"Super Polymerization" is a support card for both the Shaddoll engine and the Elemental HERO engine. Some of you may ask why I chose to only use "Mask Change" instead of mixing it with "Mask Change Second". The answer is that "Mask Change Second" requires the player to discard one card from his/her hand in order to activate the effect, and I generally dislike cards that burns the hand size. Furthermore, discarding Shaddoll monsters for "Mask Change Second" do not allow the Shaddoll monsters to trigger their effect as they were discarded to fulfill a cost, and Shaddoll monsters' effects can only activate if they were sent to the Graveyard by a card effect.

Finally, the last question that some of you may have is why I chose "Elemental HERO Heat" over the brand-new "Elemental HERO Blazeman". The answer is that I do not run "Polymerization" in my deck, so Blazeman would only be useful for its second effect to send an Elemental HERO to the Graveyard, which essentially hints at "Elemental HERO Shadow Mist". However, with cards such as "Summoner Monk", "Elemental HERO Stratos", and "E - Emergency Call", there is really no need for me to rely on Blazeman to use Shadow Mist's effect. Furthermore, Blazeman has a really low attack while Heat can become a really big beatstick if there are more Elemental HEROes on the field.

Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championships 2014 - Something Seems to be Off

Hey everyone! It's been exactly 5 months since I last made a post on this blog, and I apologise for the lack of posts due to school and work. It's the World Championships season yet again, and just like the rest of the duelists all around the world, I'm watching the live coverage and reading the articles on the Konami's coverage page.

I am not going to talk about the main event plays, nor am I going to talk about the side-play events. I am going to talk about something that has irked me about the coverage for the event, and that is the non-mentioning or coverage of any Asian players (other than last year's World Champion).




While it is good news that the event has rotated back to Europe after a significant number of years of absence, the staff that they hired, namely the photographers and writers, could have been selected in a better way. The reason why I said that is because Asian players, with the exception of the reigning champion Huang Shin-En from Taiwan (Yes, its Huang Shin-En, not Shin-En Huang, Chinese people have their last name at the front instead of the back.) seem to have been conveniently excluded from all the coverage articles on Konami's site.

The first picture of a single player was that of the reigning World Champion Huang Shin-En (Once again its Huang Shin-En, not Shin-En Huang, because he's Taiwanese Chinese). That's the obvious first choice picture since he is the reigning World Champion after all.



The next picture is of the current North American Champion Korey McDuffie.

So after these 2 pictures, I was kinda expecting the next few pictures to be introducing the current Asian Champion, Oceanic Champion, European Champion, South American Champion and the Central American Champion. However, wow, no mention of them at all, like totally no mention, not even a one-liner or anything. Well, I guess they can defend themselves by saying that they didn't manage to take any pictures of the other champions, which could pass off if we are lenient enough.



So with that said, let's look at the 5th post on the coverage site: https://tcg.konami-europe.com/coverage/pictures-from-round-1/



The first picture is of the featured match, no surprises there. Following that were a string of pictures of individual players: Deon Akridge (USA), Niccolo Mazzoleni (Italy), Sehabi Kheireddine (Canada) - i think??, Andrea Zenari (Italy), Korey McDuffie (USA) - again...., Jonathon Ritzau (Australia) and Donald Thompson (Australia).



So a mention of the Oceanic Champion was made here, though Asian players, South American players and Central American were neglected once again.

The featured players were: Bill McCavitt (Australia), Rogger Moran (Chile), Joaquin Fernando Leites (Argentina), Marcel Burri (Switerland), Donald Thompson (Australia), Jonathon Ritzau (Australia), Deon Akridge (USA), and Jose Lagunes (Mexico).


So in this post, the South American and Central American Champions were finally featured, but where's the feature for the Asian players. Among all continental champions that were featured, only the Asian Champion and the Japanese Champion were missed out, and that being said, other than the reigning World Champion Huang Shin-En, no other Asian players were featured. This sets me thinking: if the World Champion was not from Asia last year, Asian players would completely cease to exist in the coverage articles this year, there would not be any mention of them other than standings and pairings.


Next, let's move on to the finals of the Expert Class, which sees Shunsuke Hiyama of Japan taking on Sehabi Kheireddine of Canada. The match was exciting, but the commentary was not. Throughout the entire match, the commentators Jerome and Rob (I think that's their names) were only focused on Sehabi's route to the World Championships, going on and on about the NAWCQ. There was no mention of Shunsuke Hiyama's route to the World Championships at all.


Well, we can say that the commentators only had knowledge about TCG competitions, thus, only mentioning Sehabi's route. However, if that is the case, then they should not be the commentators at all. This is a World Championships, where diversity should be taken into account and commentators should have the information on all the qualifiers of all regions, and not simply talking about only one competitor of the finals. What does this leave Shunsuke then? He was hardly mentioned at all.


With the World Championships set to take place in South Korea next year, which would make it the first time that the World Championships will be in an Asian country other than Japan, I do hope for the following changes to be made:


1) Give equal coverage to all continental champions (and not leave out the Asian Champion and Japanese Champion like this year)
2) Rotate the NAWCQ to Canada instead of always being in the USA (we all know that the NAWCQ is just a plot to send more American players to Worlds, they don't care about Canadian players at all, for more information, please check out my post last year on the NAWCQ http://ygoft.blogspot.sg/2013/07/road-to-yu-gi-oh-world-championships.html )
3) Do not use a special list that benefits TCG players more than OCG players, that is simply unfair
4) Have a commentator who's knowledgeable in OCG and the other knowledgeable in TCG, instead of having both commentators only knowledgeable in the TCG

The Fun Theory Part 16: 777 - Casino Royale

Hey everyone! Apologies for the lack of posts, aside from the hectic school schedule that is dragging me down to a Bottomless Trap Hole now, the large amount of CCAs meetings are also beyond Reasoning. The rest of the time I have are either for resting or trying out new decks on Devpro.


And that's right! Today I will be introducing a deck that I have testing for quite some time now, and if you haven't figured it out from the blog title, it is going to be a "Jackpot 7" based deck. "Jackpot 7" was recently released in the OCG set "Primal Origins" as a Normal Rare with an insane instant win effect that got many players excited.

Name: Jackpot 7
Normal Spell
Effect: Shuffle this card into the Deck. When this card in your possession is sent to the Graveyard by your opponent's card effect: Banish this card. If you have 3 "Jackpot 7" banished by this effect, you win the Duel.

So with this crazy effect, as long as you can induce opponent effects to send this card to the graveyard thrice, it would be an instant win for you. But its a question of how? Your opponent would not possibly help us achieve this win condition, so you would have to make sure that they do so against their will, and without further ado, introducing my newest fun creation, "777 - Casino Royale"!

(Once again, a disclaimer for my readers: Due to Konami separating the OCG and TCG banlist now, I will only be doing deck profiles in accordance to the OCG list, so please do not be surprised if you happen to find any cards that is not legal in the TCG)

If you have realised from the decklist above, I did not type out the Extra Deck list. Well, it's not because I'm too lazy to do so or anything, but it's because the Extra Deck is not important for this deck to achieve victory, which means to say that I generally tend to avoid using any cards from the Extra Deck as the effects of my monsters in this deck forms its core competency.

The most important thing to achieve in this deck is to use either "Creature Swap" or "Mystic Box" to transfer control of "Dark Scorpion Burglars" from your side of the field to your opponent's. Then, the follow-up actions would be to attack into this monster and successfully take damage, thus, activating "Dark Scorpion Burglars'" mandatory effect to send a Spell Card from your deck to the graveyard. As the choice of the Spell Card lies with you, you can then send "Jackpot 7" from your deck to the graveyard, and as this counts as being sent to the grave by your opponent's card effect (since the controller of "Dark Scorpion Burglars" is your opponent), it will be banished. All it takes is 3 times for you to achieve victory.

However, I'm sure that many of you will have some burning questions regarding the feasibility of this idea which are as follows:

1) How can you ensure that you can get both "Dark Scorpion Burglars" and "Creature Swap"/"Mystic Box" before your opponent defeats you?

2) What happens if your opponent tribute "Dark Scorpion Burglars", use it as a Synchro Material, or use it to Xyz Summon before you can use its effect thrice?

3) By suiciding your monster into "Dark Scorpion Burglars", aren't you losing field advantage which can be potentially dangerous for your next turn?

4) What happens if you do not have enough lifepoints to suicide your monsters into "Dark Scorpion Burglars"?

5) What do you plan to do before you can set up this combo?

With regards to Question 1, there are a total of 12 draw cards which amounts to a deck thinning potential of 44.1% (this percentage excludes the first 6 cards that you will draw). Although this does not quite amount to 50%, it does come close and provides almost sufficient opportunities to pull of the combo.

For Question 2, such cases are quite hard to predict, but what this deck allows is enough monsters to remain on the field before the combo starts, as cards such as "Marshmallon", "Spirit Reaper" and "Arcana Force 0 - The Fool" cannot be destroyed by battle, thus, they will have the ability to stay alive until you kickstart the combo, then attack with 3 of them, and you would be able to win! Furthermore, 3 copies of "Scapegoat" helps to boost the chance of activating the effect thrice as you can send the goat tokens into "Dark Scorpion Burglars"!

Field advantage for the next turn does not really matter since you will be performing an OTK anyway, but if there is fear of the OTK not working, thus, resulting in a bad situation, do remember that "Marshmallon", "Spirit Reaper" and "Arcana Force 0 - The Fool" cannot be destroyed by battle, so you would still have some form of protection for your next turn. Even if your monsters are fully wiped out, if you managed to draw one of the three "Scapegoats", you will still be relatively safe for your next turn.

The fourth situation is pretty tricky since not having sufficient lifepoints effectively means that your combo is screwed. That is why a backup is required, and this comes in the form of "Needle Worm". By using "Creature Swap" or "Mystic Box" to send "Needle Worm" to your opponent, then waiting for him/her to flip it up, or attacking it yourself, "Needle Worm's" effect will mill 5 cards off the top of your deck which gives you a chance to mill "Jackpot 7" which will banish it with its own effect as well. By the time this happens, your deck should be pretty thin due to all the draw cards used, so the chances of milling "Jackpot 7" will be pretty high!

The answer to the last question is essentially just setting up a wall of "Marshmallon", "Spirit Reaper", and/or "Arcana Force 0 - The Fool" which gives you the protection that you will need before starting your combo!

With all the above questions answered, some of you may have some reservations on the choice of my cards. One would probably be: Why use "Mystic Box" when you are already using "Creature Swap"?

Well the answer is that is: Despite all the draw power and defense that this deck possesses, it will still be pretty tough to draw "Creature Swap" fast and kickstart the combo. Therefore, using "Mystic Box" gives you more room and possibility for an early combo. This card will not be dead as well as you can use it to destroy their monsters and send a "Scapegoat token" to them.

Next, some people may ask why use "Needle Worm" over "Morphing Jar"? And why not both? The answer is that I do not have enough deck space to play both and I do prefer "Needle Worm" over "Morphing Jar" as I don't really like the idea of my opponent refreshing his/her hand.

I hope that you have enjoyed this post and hopefully this deck will work for you just like how it has worked for me :) One last piece of advice, if you draw into "Jackpot 7", don't be in a hurry to activate it and send it back to the deck. Instead, set it. You never know if your opponent will use "Mystical Space Typhoon" on it or are running "Artifacts" :)
